Catalina State Park Buffelgrass Dig

February 5, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

We are having nice winter weather and the washes are flowing in Catalina State Park- beautiful! Time to get out and work while it is cool and dig out some buffelgrass. And back for our spring digs, the popular baby saguaro raffle! Attend and receive a chance to win a one-gallon saguaro from the Pima County Native Plant Nursery. February is ‘Save Our Saguaros’ Month in Tucson. Removing buffelgrass is the major way to ensure that saguaros survive in our part of the Sonoran Desert.

Meet: Equestrian Center parking lot. Remember to park in the area reserved for cars next to the corrals. Meet the group at the picnic tables. There is no parking next to the picnic area.
Site: We will work off of the 50 Year Trail
Tools Provided: pick-mattocks, digging bars, hand picks, work gloves
Bring: A small pack with 2 Liters of water, snack, sunscreen (Optional: your own gloves, kneeling mat, trekking pole)
Wear: Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, sunglasses, sun hat, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, light jacket
Additional Information: Get into the park for free! We can socially distance on the trail and work site. Be prepared to hike 30 minutes and work off-trail on a rocky slope
