National Public Lands Day on the Arizona Trail

September 28, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

Spanning the length of Arizona from Mexico to Utah, the 800+ miles of the Arizona National Scenic Trail features the biological diversity equivalent of hiking from Mexico to Canada! Such diversity and such beauty requires a lot of maintenance. Spend a day with the Arizona Trail Association (ATA) working to improve, maintain, and care for an iconic Arizona destination. Join REI in supporting the Arizona Trail Association on National Public Lands Day on September 38.

We will meet at 8:00am at the Apache Spring Trailhead off of Gardner Canyon Road. Expect to hike between 2 and 3 miles over the course of the day, carrying tools over rough terrain. There’s many different tasks to undertake, which means there’s something for every level of fitness and experience. This is the perfect chance to learn more about what makes trail work such a rewarding volunteer experience!

Personal protective equipment (PPEs) and tools are provided. However – we recommend that if you have your own work gloves or eye protection (sunglasses or goggles) that you bring it along. We will be working out in the sun on the trail – proper skin and sun protection (long pants/sleeves and sunscreen) is strongly recommended. Sturdy, closed toe shoes such as hiking boots are required. Participants should bring at least 2 liters of water in a backpack or other carrying apparatus. Water will not be available at the trailhead. Lunch will be provided to all those who register.
