SAVE OUR SAGUAROS – Panther Peak (sustainbly-built, off-the-grid home tour in afternoon)

Description: Spend time in one of the prettiest desert landscapes on earth. The hike to he pull site will be short (about 3-4 miles RT), but frequently off-trail and across rough terrain. Park personnel will come with us. Take as many breaks as you like so you can enjoy the view. Stick around afterwards to eat your lunch on a porch at the edge the National Park’s wild saguaro desert. Then get a tour of an off-the-grid, solar-electric strawbale house with passive solar heating, earthen plaster walls, composting toilets, and rainwater harvesting for all the home’s water needs. The house was built to minimize it’s visual impact on the stunning landscape where it sits.

Tools Provided: Park service will provide your choice of tool: rock hammer, small pick, large pick, or bar.
Bring: Several litters of liquid, protection from the sun (hat and sunscreen), and lunch.
Wear: Sturdy footwear for hiking and working. Long sleeves and long pants are a good idea to protect from scratchs
