Sky Island Trail Stewards Training
April 17 - April 18
The Coronado National Forest, Wild Arizona and CASA (Climbing Association of Southern AZ) would like you to attend the Sky Island Trail Stewards training course. Learn advanced trail maintenance skills under the guidance of skilled instructors. Use these skills to help improve your local trails and public lands.
Join us, April 17-18, 2021 at the Florida Station near Madera Canyon on the Nogales Ranger District. This training is FREE and open to one to two participants from an assortment of partner groups. We recognize there is an ongoing uncertainty about the Covid-19 pandemic. Know that we are committed to ensuring safe working conditions and will adjust as the situation requires. If safety conditions warrant, we are offering overnight accommodations at the Florida Station however, if the virus situation is not substantially improved, we will likely have to require folks to camp instead.
One of the main goals for this training is to ensure we are understanding the needs specific to each of the user groups with regards to trail maintenance. It will be important and assumed that each participant attending will come with an experience level adequate to contribute to the learning. There will be five subsequent trainings geographically located across the forest with specific dates and locations forthcoming. Follow-up trainings will likely be organized as modules from beginner levels through expert. In addition to general trail maintenance, we recognize the need for advanced skills trainings in rock work, trail construction, project management, and saws and will continue to develop what that might look like.
There is no doubt that we all have a special kind of love for our public lands. While our differences in how we recreate may be different the work that needs to be done to allow unobstructed access remains the same. Through this collaborative training program, we aim to build a sense of pride and ownership of trails across all recreational users.
We hope to cast a wide net to capture all user groups that may want to participate, so please share this announcement broadly.
We strongly encourage and hope you will be part of this opportunity. Please reply to this message or contact Brian@wildarizona.org with your level of interest in participating.
