Wilderness Volunteers Buffelgrass Removal

Join Wilderness Volunteers for a week-long service project that will focus on removing invasive buffelgrass and fountain grass in Saguaro National Park. Using digging tools such as picks, rock hammers, and rock bars, we'll combat these noxious weeds that fill in the open spaces in the Sonoran Desert, crowding out native plants and competing for nutrients, water, and sunshine, and pose a huge fire risk.

No experience is needed to help with trail maintenance. Triangle Y Camp and SDMB will provide all of the tools and training. This trail maintenance project will focus on the Mormon Canyon and Mormon Ridge trails in the Chiricahua Mountains. As of last summer the trails had intermittent deadfall and tread issues near the drainage bottom. Join the Arizona Trail Association and REI in this project to build new trail alignment in Oracle State Park. Volunteers will hike approximately 1/2 a mile with tools to work on a reroute project to bypass a section of trail that has been badly eroded.
